UMDC 2024: Inspiring the Young Generation to Realize Peace and Justice Through Debate

Universitas Negeri Malang Debate Competition (UMDC) is a prestigious debate competition organized by the English Department Student Association of State University of Malang on 10 November. This activity aims to provide a platform for students to hone their critical thinking, public speaking, and logical argumentation skills in English. With the theme “Fostering Justice and Strong Institutions Through Debate ”, UMDC encouraged participants to explore relevant global issues, including justice, peace, and building inclusive and effective institutions. 

UMDC supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 16, namely Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by encouraging solution-oriented discussions on challenges facing the world community. The competition aims to raise students’ awareness of the importance of promoting the values of peace, justice, and good governance through constructive dialog.  

This activity is expected to build a young generation that has the courage to voice opinions, communication skills, and empathy for issues that affect people’s lives globally. Through UMDC, participants are not only invited to compete intellectually, but also to become agents of change who are able to fight for a more peaceful, just and inclusive society.
