UMDC 2024: Building a Global Perspective Through English Debate Competition

Universitas Negeri Malang Debate Competition (UMDC) is a prestigious competition held by the English Department Student Association of Universitas Negeri Malang on November 10. This activity aims to provide a forum for students to develop critical thinking skills, communication skills, and argumentation skills through English-based academic debates. With the theme “Building Global Perspectives through Debate”, UMDC serves as a platform for students to discuss global issues, including sustainability, education, and equality, and trains them to become individuals who are more sensitive to the challenges of the modern world.

In addition to being a competition, UMDC is designed to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 4, namely Quality Education. The competition contributes to efforts to create an inclusive learning environment and encourage innovation in education. Through this activity, students are not only honed their academic skills, but also invited to explore their intellectual potential and build broader horizons.

By enhancing critical and analytical thinking skills, UMDC aims to produce a generation that is ready to become agents of change in creating sustainable solutions for society. Hopefully, through this competitive experience, participants can inspire themselves and others to contribute to the development of a more empowered and educated society. UMDC is a place for students to demonstrate intellectual excellence while practicing empathy and concern for relevant global issues.
