Indonesian Literature Lecturer at State University of Malang Presents Study on the Sacredness of Mount Kawi and Potential Economic Benefits at International Seminar

On 23 September 2024, at the International Seminar on Indonesian Language-Literature organized by PROBSI Cendekia at the State University of Malang, Dr. Dwi Sulistyorini, M. Hum. presented the results of an exciting study on the sacredness of Gunung Kawi and its potential to create economic benefits. In her research, Dr. Dwi revealed that Gunung Kawi, as one of the revered places of pilgrimage and culture in East Java, has a value that is not only spiritual but also has the potential to support the local economy.

According to Dr. Dwi, Gunung Kawi’s sacredness attracts many visitors, both for spiritual purposes and cultural tourism. This creates economic opportunities through the tourism sector, which includes the provision of transportation services, accommodation, culinary services, and local handicrafts. With the increasing number of tourists coming, the economy around the Gunung Kawi area is also growing.

Furthermore, Dr. Dwi explained that good management of this cultural and spiritual potential can encourage inclusive economic sustainability. Empowering local communities in the tourism sector can open up new job opportunities and increase income. In addition, preserving traditions and cultural values at Gunung Kawi also plays a vital role in creating a balance between economic growth and cultural heritage preservation.

This study emphasizes that with the right strategy, a place’s sacredness and cultural value can be a sustainable economic driver, benefiting not only the tourism sector but also the local community as a whole.
