The International Conference on Arts, Design, Education, and Cultural Studies (ICADECS) 2024, held at Universitas Negeri Malang, will shine a spotlight on how arts and design can be powerful tools for advancing SDG 5: Gender Equality. Ari Dharminalan Rudenko, Ph.D. (Cand), will lead a session on the role of creative education in promoting gender equity and inclusion.
In his presentation, Rudenko will explore how artistic expression and design can challenge gender stereotypes, elevate women’s voices, and create inclusive spaces for all genders. He will showcase examples where art projects and design initiatives have been used to highlight issues such as gender-based violence, unequal pay, and the underrepresentation of women in leadership roles.
Through case studies, Rudenko will demonstrate how arts-based educational programs have empowered women and girls by providing platforms for self-expression and storytelling. These creative approaches have fostered confidence and resilience, helping to break down social barriers and build more inclusive communities.
Rudenko will also emphasize the importance of gender-sensitive design in creating safe, accessible public spaces. By involving women in the design process, communities can ensure that public infrastructure meets the needs of all genders, fostering a sense of belonging and security.
Aligned with ICADECS 2024’s theme, “Reimagining Education through Arts and Design for Sustainable Futures,” Rudenko’s session will underscore the importance of creative education in achieving gender equality. Participants will engage in discussions, workshops, and exhibitions exploring how arts and design can promote empowerment, inclusivity, and gender equity in education and beyond.
