The International Conference on Arts, Design, Education, and Cultural Studies (ICADECS) 2024, hosted by Universitas Negeri Malang, will focus on how creative education can inspire climate action. Ari Dharminalan Rudenko, Ph.D. (Cand), will lead a session exploring the role of arts and design in advancing SDG 13: Climate Action.
Rudenko will discuss how artists and designers can raise awareness about climate change through visual storytelling, public installations, and environmental design. He will highlight how creative expression can make the complexities of climate science more accessible and emotionally resonant, encouraging broader public engagement with environmental issues. Rudenko will showcase examples where art has sparked community action and influenced policy discussions on sustainability and environmental protection.
His presentation will also explore how design thinking can contribute to climate solutions. From sustainable architecture and eco-friendly product design to community-driven green initiatives, arts and design can offer innovative strategies for reducing carbon footprints and adapting to a changing climate. Rudenko will emphasize the importance of integrating climate education into creative disciplines, encouraging students to use their skills to tackle one of the most urgent challenges of our time.
Aligned with the ICADECS 2024 theme, “Reimagining Education through Arts and Design for Sustainable Futures,” Rudenko’s session will inspire participants to explore how arts and design can play a critical role in climate action. Through discussions, exhibitions, and workshops, attendees will learn how creative education can empower individuals and communities to address climate change and promote environmental sustainability.
