SDG 14
The International Conference on Arts, Design, Education, and Cultural Studies (ICADECS) 2024, hosted by Universitas Negeri Malang, will address global environmental issues with a focus on the role of creative education in protecting marine ecosystems. Ari Dharminalan Rudenko, Ph.D. (Cand), will lead a session on how art and design can contribute to SDG 14: Life Below Water.
Rudenko will explore how creative practices can raise awareness about the health of oceans and marine life. He will discuss how art installations, digital media, and public art campaigns have been used to highlight critical issues such as ocean pollution, overfishing, and habitat destruction. By using visual storytelling and immersive design, artists can communicate the urgency of protecting marine environments in ways that science alone cannot.
In his presentation, Rudenko will showcase examples where art and design have inspired policy changes and community action aimed at preserving oceans and marine ecosystems. He will emphasize the importance of integrating these approaches into education, encouraging students to become advocates for marine conservation through creative expression and innovation.
Aligned with the ICADECS 2024 theme, “Reimagining Education through Arts and Design for Sustainable Futures,” Rudenko’s session will highlight the critical role of creative education in advancing SDG 14. Participants will engage in discussions, workshops, and exhibitions on how educators, artists, and environmentalists can collaborate to raise awareness and drive action to protect life below water, ensuring the future sustainability of our oceans and marine ecosystems.
