The International Conference on Arts, Design, Education, and Cultural Studies (ICADECS) 2024 at Universitas Negeri Malang will explore how arts and design can contribute to building peaceful and inclusive societies. Ari Dharminalan Rudenko, Ph.D. (Cand), will deliver a keynote presentation focused on the role of creative education in advancing SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
In his talk, Rudenko will discuss how artistic expression and design can foster dialogue, promote justice, and help communities heal from conflict. He will explore the use of visual arts, theater, and music as tools for peacebuilding, emphasizing how these mediums can address social tensions and bring people together. By facilitating understanding across diverse communities, arts and design can contribute to building stronger, more just institutions.
Rudenko will present case studies where creative initiatives have been used to prevent violence, promote human rights, and strengthen civic engagement. These examples show how arts and design can empower individuals to advocate for justice and contribute to the creation of transparent, accountable institutions.
Aligned with ICADECS 2024’s theme, “Reimagining Education through Arts and Design for Sustainable Futures,” Rudenko’s presentation will underscore the importance of integrating creative education into peace and justice efforts. Through workshops, exhibitions, and discussions, participants will explore how the arts can inspire social change, promote peace, and build institutions that are resilient, inclusive, and capable of upholding justice for all.
