The origami and kirigami training conducted by Yon Ade Lose Hermanto, S.Sn, M.Sn, from the State University of Malang at Kolej Komuniti Selayang Selangor, Malaysia, on August 14, 2024, not only aims to improve the learning media skills of Indonesian students.
Origami and kirigami, the Japanese art of paper folding and cutting, offer efficient and environmentally friendly methods in making educational props. Using simple materials such as recycled paper, this training teaches students to make the most of existing resources. These techniques teach how used paper can be transformed into functional and aesthetic learning media, reducing the need for new materials and contributing to waste reduction.
Through this activity, students not only gain new skills in creating educational aids but also learn about the importance of choosing sustainable materials. By promoting the use of recycled materials and resource-efficient methods, this training supports more responsible consumption practices. This initiative teaches students that creativity and innovation do not have to come at the expense of sustainability, and that art can play an important role in global efforts to achieve more responsible consumption and production.
