Visual Communication Design (DKV) Program at Universitas Negeri Malang held an orientation event for its new students in the AVA D14 building. The event focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 17: “Partnerships for the Goals.” SDG 17 calls for stronger global cooperation between governments, private sectors, and civil society to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
During the event, the role of design in fostering global partnerships was emphasized. The speakers, including faculty members and design professionals, encouraged students to view design not only as a creative field but also as a powerful tool for communication and collaboration. They highlighted case studies where design solutions played a critical role in addressing global issues such as climate change, poverty, and inequality through cross-sector partnerships.
Interactive sessions allowed students to explore how their future design projects could contribute to real-world sustainability challenges. The event also provided opportunities for students to engage in discussions on potential collaborations with other departments, industries, and international organizations to maximize the impact of their work.
By the end of the event, students were inspired to harness their design skills to create meaningful partnerships and contribute to global development efforts, setting the tone for their academic journey and future careers in visual communication.
