Head of the Art Education Program at Universitas Negeri Malang delivered an inspiring welcome speech to the incoming students. The speech focused on the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 10: “Reduced Inequalities.” This goal emphasizes the need to reduce disparities and promote equal opportunities for all, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, or economic status.
In the speech, the head of the program highlighted the role that art can play in breaking down social barriers and fostering inclusivity. “Art has the power to speak across differences, challenge stereotypes, and create spaces for dialogue,” they said. “As future art educators and practitioners, you have the unique ability to use your creativity to address inequality in all its forms.”
The speech also touched on the importance of collaboration and empathy in the arts, urging students to embrace diversity in their work and in their approach to education. Through interdisciplinary projects, the head encouraged students to explore how art can be used to raise awareness and advocate for marginalized communities.
By the end of the speech, students were inspired to consider their role not just as artists but as advocates for social change, working toward a more inclusive and equitable world through their artistic endeavors.
