Reduced Inequalities
SDG 10
Three students from the German Literature Department of Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) have been awarded scholarships by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to participate in summer courses at prestigious universities in Germany. Over the course of a month, Muhammad Iqbal and Rafi Kurnia will study at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, while Alif Nadia will attend Universität Leipzig.
This initiative highlights the importance of promoting reduced inequalities by providing equitable opportunities for education and personal development. By enabling these students to study abroad, the scholarships contribute to reducing disparities in access to quality education and fostering inclusivity, which are key aspects of SDG 10.
The DAAD scholarships ensure that students from Universitas Negeri Malang have access to high-quality education and international experiences, regardless of their socioeconomic background. This opportunity helps level the playing field and ensures that students from diverse backgrounds can benefit from world-class educational resources and environments.
The students will immerse themselves in German culture and collaborate with local students, providing a rich cross-cultural experience. This exposure fosters mutual understanding and respect, which are crucial for addressing and reducing social and cultural inequalities. By experiencing different cultures and educational systems, the students will gain a broader perspective that they can bring back to their home country, promoting inclusivity and understanding.
This initiative also strengthens the ties between Universitas Negeri Malang and German universities, promoting long-term academic partnerships. These relationships are crucial for sharing knowledge and best practices in education, which can help reduce educational inequalities both locally and globally.
By participating in these summer courses, the students will bring back innovative teaching and learning practices to UM, contributing to the university’s efforts to promote inclusive and equitable educational practices. This aligns with SDG 10’s focus on ensuring equal opportunities and reducing inequalities of outcome.
The participation of Muhammad Iqbal, Rafi Kurnia, and Alif Nadia in DAAD-sponsored summer courses in Germany underscores the vital role of providing equitable educational opportunities in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 10. Through these international experiences, Universitas Negeri Malang is not only enhancing the quality of education for its students but also contributing to the global effort to reduce inequalities.
We anticipate that the experiences and insights gained by these students will inspire further efforts to promote inclusivity and equity in education. By leveraging these opportunities, we can work together to build a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable world.
