UM Organizes Learning Training for German Language Teachers in Greater Malang
Training on project-based German learning design for German language teachers in Greater Malang was held as a community service activity by a team of German language lecturers at the State University of Malang (UM). This team was chaired by Dr. Primardiana Hermilia Wijayati, M.Pd., Dr. Edy Hidayat, M.Hum, and Dr. Dewi Kartika Ardiyani, M.Pd. The activity was carried out as a provision for teachers in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum, which has been implemented in several schools in Indonesia.
Project-based learning and assessment training is conducted offline in the courtroom of the Faculty of Letters, State University of Malang. The movement started in July 2022 and will be held every month until November 2022. The activity was attended by UM German lecturers and German language teachers in the Greater Malang area who are members of the Malang Branch of the Indonesian German Language Teachers Association (IGBJI) and the Deliberation of German Language Subject Teachers in the Greater Malang area, was held on Saturday (3/9/2022) from 09.00 to 14.00 WIB.

Teacher learning and assessment are project-based in this training, especially at the A1 and A2 language levels. The learning design utilizes various digital platforms such as Webquest, Vocaro, Padlet, Skype, Youtube, and social media Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp. This training for German teachers provides information that is very useful for improving the quality of German learning and assessment so that teachers’ standard of German language skills increases. The training also allowed teachers to practice creating project assignments and assessment rubrics that can be directly implemented in their respective schools by creating exciting and fun learning through digital platforms currently popular among teenagers.
The teachers were very enthusiastic about participating in a series of activities organized by UM German lecturers. The teachers’ activeness shows this in answering questions and completing all the tasks given during the training. The movement held by the UM lecturer team is expected to improve German language teachers’ abilities, especially in providing good learning and assessment services to students with exciting activities.
