Independent internship activities are carried out at Peacock Decoration which is a company engaged in the decoration sector in Malang. Peacock decoration handles important event decorations, such as wedding decorations, proposal decorations, birthday decorations, and many more. Intern students will be taught how to decorate an event. Starting from meetings with clients, surveying venues, measuring venues, designing venue decorations using Photoshop and Illustrator applications, preparing items for decoration purposes, to making these designs into real event decorations. Intern students will certainly be assisted by employees who are used to decorating an event. Students will always be accompanied by employees according to their fields in working on an event decoration project with the target of this activity being clients who use Peacock Decoration services. The independent internship activities carried out at Peacock Decoration start from January 16 2023 to May 12 2023 in accordance with the time of lectures at Malang State University. The purpose of this independent internship activity is that students are expected to acquire hard skills (skills, complex problem solving, analytical skills, etc.), as well as soft skills (professional/work ethics, communication, cooperation, etc.) so that they can provide field contextual experiences that will enhance student competence as a whole, ready to work, or create new jobs. This independent internship activity was carried out at the Peacock Decoration which is located at Jalan Letjend Soetoyo IV No. 57, Lowokwaru, Lowokwaru District, Malang City, East Java, 65141

The internship activity begins with an introduction to the jobdesk that will be carried out during the internship process. Even though the main jobdesk of apprentice students is included in the design division, apprentices are still taught all jobdesks from the start until an event decoration is realized. In realizing event decorations that are in accordance with the wishes of course, careful preparation is needed. The first thing to do is meeting with the client. This is done in order to find out what the client wants and determine the best way to make it happen. After that, a site survey was carried out and the measurement process was carried out. Apprentice students are required to bring a meter or measuring instrument as well as writing equipment. A place survey was conducted to find out which spots are the best for decorating, the size of the place to be decorated, flow, plotting or layout when decorating, and having a plan B for eventualities that can occur beyond our control and how to handle them. The second stage is to design the form of decoration that will be realized later. This decoration design is in 2D shape using the help of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. After finishing the design, they will be consulted and undergo several stages of revision so that it is truly in accordance with the wishes of the client. Design also has several stages, such as concept, structure, coloring, to detailing. The third stage is preparation. Prepare items for decoration purposes such as real flowers, artificial flowers, bubblekan foam, stages, fabrics, various types of insulation, etc. The final stage is the application of the design into a real decoration. Realizing decorations that are based on the designs that have been made. After the event is over, the decorations will be dismantled, so that the items that can be reused can be used in the next decoration. This can be said to fulfill SDG 4, namely quality education that is obtained by students outside the lecture bench in the form of knowledge obtained by the learn by doing method directly at an internship which of course will be more easily absorbed by students and can also fulfill SDG 8 which is also fulfilled, namely decent work and economic growth. Students who have internship experience or work directly in the field will certainly make it easier for students to find decent jobs after graduating from college and can increase economic growth.
