On October 14, 2024, State University of Malang held a validation test related to language for the “Si Anak” (Children’s Encyclopedia) website at the Self Access Center (SAC), Building A20. This activity presents an expert validator, Prof. Dr. Hj Yuni Pratiwi, M.Pd., to ensure that the use of language in the content of “Si Anak” is appropriate and easily understood by early childhood. The “Si Anak” website is an innovative prototype developed through funding from the Directorate of Research, Technology and Community Service (DRTPM), and is the result of collaboration between lecturers and students of the Faculty of Letters, State University of Malang.

The main objective of this validation test was to ensure that the language choices, writing style, and presentation of information in “Si Anak” are appropriate for children, so that they can access relevant knowledge in an interesting and easy-to-understand way. Prof. Dr. Hj Yuni Pratiwi, M.Pd., as the linguistic expert, provided input related to vocabulary, sentence structure, and content arrangement to suit early childhood learning needs. This is very important to support children’s early language and literacy development, where the use of appropriate and child-friendly language will help them understand the content well and be more enthusiastic in learning.

“Si Anak” website is designed to provide educational and useful information in an interactive encyclopedia format. This website presents a wide variety of topics of interest to children, such as natural science, social, cultural, and various aspects of daily life that are packaged with simple language and attractive illustrations. In addition, the educational game feature is expected to provide a more fun and interactive learning experience.

This initiative is in line with efforts to provide access to quality education from an early age, ensuring that every child, without exception, has the opportunity to learn in a conducive environment. The development team from Universitas Negeri Malang hopes that “Si Anak” can be an effective medium to help children understand various basic concepts independently, while improving their language and literacy skills.

This linguistic validation process is an important part of developing “Si Anak” as a website that is not only informative, but also educational, inspirational, and widely accessible to children and parents. It is hoped that, through this project, a young generation will be formed that is literate, has a strong understanding of language, and is better prepared to face the challenges of higher education in the future.
