On August 14, 2024, the atmosphere at Kolej Komuniti Selayang, Selangor, Malaysia, was filled with mouth-watering aromas as renowned chef Yon Ade Lose Hermanto held a cooking workshop titled “Taste Indonesia in Malaysia.” The event aimed to introduce the richness of Indonesian cuisine through popular street food. With high enthusiasm, participants from various backgrounds gathered to learn directly from this experienced chef. In the session, Yon Ade taught how to make several iconic dishes such as bakso, martabak, and cilok. He explained each step clearly, from selecting ingredients to the right cooking techniques.

Participants were actively involved in the food-making process, dividing themselves into groups to try out the recipes taught. This direct involvement created a fun learning atmosphere, with participants sharing tips and tricks while cooking. Yon Ade not only taught recipes, but also shared stories about the origins of Indonesian cuisine, as well as the meaning behind each dish. This made participants increasingly appreciate the diversity of flavors and cultures contained in Nusantara cuisine.

The training also created an opportunity for participants to network and get to know each other, strengthening friendships through a love of cooking. With the new knowledge gained, many participants hope to introduce Indonesian cuisine to their environment. The event was not only successful in providing cooking skills, but also brought the nuances of Indonesia to Malaysia, strengthening cultural ties between the countries. With the success of this training, it is hoped that more people will get to know and love Indonesian cuisine, and feel the warmth of the culture it offers.
