On 14 August 2024, Kolej Komuniti Selayang, Selangor, Malaysia, hosted a successful cooking workshop, titled “Indonesian Street Food Cooking Workshop.” The event attracted many participants who wanted to deepen their skills in cooking authentic Indonesian dishes. Hosted by renowned chef Yon Ade, the workshop aimed to introduce and teach how to make various popular Indonesian street foods, such as bakso, cilok, and martabak. Yon Ade opened the session by explaining the history and uniqueness of each dish, as well as the importance of using fresh ingredients.

Participants not only listened, but were also directly involved in the cooking process. They were divided into groups and taught the cooking techniques from start to finish. The involvement of participants created an interactive and fun atmosphere, with lots of laughter and collaboration. One of the participants, Maya, expressed her excitement: “I am so happy to be able to learn directly from a professional chef. It was an amazing experience and I can’t wait to try making it at home.”

The training also emphasized the importance of attractive presentation. Participants were taught how to arrange food to look appetizing, so that it can attract the attention of potential buyers if they want to sell it on the street. This event not only provided cooking skills, but also strengthened the relationship between participants from various backgrounds. Many of them hope that similar events can be held again in the future. With the success of this training, it is hoped that Indonesian street food can be better known and loved in Malaysia, while strengthening cultural interactions between the two countries. This training is an important step in promoting Indonesia’s culinary richness on the international stage.
