On 23 September 2024, during the International Seminar on Indonesian Language and Literature organized by PROBSI Cendekia at the State University of Malang, Dr. Pujiharto, M. Hum. a lecturer from Gajah Mada University, shared his views on the importance of Indonesian Language and Literature study programs in creating quality education. In his presentation, Dr. Pujiharto emphasized that this study program does not only focus on language teaching, but also plays an important role in character building, literacy development, and understanding Indonesian culture.
Dr. Pujiharto explained that through the teaching of Indonesian Language and Literature, students not only learn about language structures and literary works, but also learn to appreciate local and national cultural values. This study program plays a central role in strengthening the nation’s cultural identity, while equipping students with essential communication skills to face global challenges.
In addition, Dr. Pujiharto revealed that the quality of education in the Indonesian Language and Literature study program also has a direct impact on improving critical, analytical, and creative thinking skills, which are highly needed in the world of work. A good language education will open up greater opportunities for the younger generation to contribute in various sectors, including education, media, culture, and creative industries.
Thus, this study program not only creates individuals who are skilled in languages, but also plays a role in realizing inclusive and equitable education, which can support the development of a more just and sustainable society.
