The Indonesian Traditional Music Conservation and Innovation Workshop or Lokovasia 2024, organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) in collaboration with the Musike SJ Foundation, is a week-long event aimed at preserving and innovating Indonesian traditional music. Held from September 1 to 7, 2024, at the Audio Visual Hall D14, State University of Malang, the event brings together students from the Department of Dance and Music Education, State University of Malang, to engage in this cultural endeavor.
The workshop is designed to foster sustainable, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. By combining tradition with innovation, Lokovasia 2024 aspires to empower young musicians to adapt traditional music forms into contemporary contexts, thereby ensuring their relevance and sustainability in today’s globalized world.
The highlight of the event is a grand performance at UBTV on the evening of September 6 and 7, 2024, showcasing the creative works of the participants. The event aims to foster a deeper understanding of cultural heritage while encouraging artistic and economic innovation in the field of traditional music, as well as equipping students with the tools to continue Indonesia’s rich musical heritage in a modern framework.
