SDG 3

In 2024, the lecturers of the Dance and Music Education Study Program at State University of Malang welcomed new students with a series of activities that emphasized the importance of the arts in supporting the achievement of SDG 3 – Healthy Life and Well-Being. These activities are designed to introduce the role of the arts, particularly dance and music, in improving physical, mental health, and social well-being.

In their remarks, the lecturers emphasized that dance and music not only serve as forms of cultural expression and creativity, but also as powerful tools for maintaining health and well-being. Through the arts, individuals can express emotions, relieve stress, and build strong social bonds with others, all of which contribute to mental and emotional well-being.

This activity also includes workshops and discussion sessions where new students are invited to explore how they can use the arts in their daily lives to support their health and well-being. For example, through regular dance practice, students can maintain their physical fitness, while through music, they can find new ways to calm their minds and reduce anxiety.

In addition, new students are encouraged to consider how they can use their arts skills to make a positive impact in their communities. Lecturers provide concrete examples of how the arts have been used in various public health programs, such as music therapy for patients with mental disorders or the use of dance as part of physical rehabilitation.

By welcoming new students in this context, Universitas Negeri Malang is committed to preparing a generation of artists who are not only creative, but also aware of their role in promoting a healthy and prosperous life. This activity is the first step in an academic journey that connects art with human well-being, in accordance with the vision of SDG 3.
