SDG 11
The Introduction to Campus Life Program for New Students (PKKMB) at the State University of Malang’s Dance and Music Education Study Program this year emphasizes the importance of the role of art in supporting the achievement of SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities. In this activity, new students are introduced to the concepts of sustainability and how art can be an agent of positive social change in building a better community.
PKKMB is designed to build students’ awareness of their responsibilities as future educators and artists in creating a sustainable environment. Through discussions, workshops and presentations, students are invited to explore how dance and music can be used to promote social sustainability, inclusion and harmony within their communities.
One of the main focuses of this activity was integrating sustainability values into arts education. Students are invited to think critically about how their art practice can affect the community around them, as well as how they can use art as a tool to create positive change. For example, through artworks that address environmental or social issues, they can educate the public and encourage more sustainable actions.
By participating in this PKKMB, students not only prepare themselves for a career in the arts and education, but also to become responsible leaders in building better cities and communities. Universitas Negeri Malang is committed to supporting the achievement of SDG 11 by creating a generation of artists who care about sustainability and are able to use art to drive significant social change.
