Theater can be an effective learning medium for improving critical thinking and collaboration in elementary school (SD) students. This was conveyed by Dr. Wida Rahayuningtyas S.Pd. M.Pd in community service activities with the theme cinema project training at SDN 2 Sumberejo, Malang Regency, on Saturday, July 20 2024.
According to Dr. Wida, theater can help students think critically about various social and cultural issues, develop communication and presentation skills, collaborate with other people to achieve common goals, increase self-confidence and courage. Dr. Wida explained that theater can be applied in various subjects, such as Indonesian, Social Sciences and Arts and Culture.
“Teachers can use theater to help students understand lesson material better,” said Dr. Wida. “Theatre can also help students to develop a variety of skills that are important for life.” In this activity, Dr. Wida also provided examples of the application of theater in learning. Teachers draw inspiration from these examples and are excited to try implementing theater in their classrooms.
One of the participants at the seminar said that he would try to apply theater in Indonesian language learning. They will ask students to create a play based on the story they read. You believe that this activity will help students to understand the story better and develop their communication skills. Dr. Wida hopes that this activity can encourage elementary school teachers to use theater as a learning medium in their classes. According to Dr. Wida, Theater is a learning medium that is useful and fun for students. We hope that teachers can use theater to improve the quality of learning in schools.
