Learning and Students

SDG 4

The International Teaching Assistant Program (AMI) organized by the Faculty of Letters, State University of Malang is an initiative that aims to improve the quality of education through teaching English in international schools. From May 25 to June 22 2024, students have the opportunity to teach at Darulmuhmin School, an elementary school in Satun, Thailand.

Teaching at Darulmuhmin School is a very valuable and challenging experience. As an elementary school in a rural area, Darulmuhmin School has limited facilities but is rich in its students’ enthusiasm for learning. Every day, I teach English to students from various grade levels, from first grade to sixth grade. The approach I use is an interactive learning method that involves games, songs and group activities. This aims to make learning English fun and easy for children to understand. I also collaborate with local teachers to develop teaching materials that suit the curriculum and student needs.

The AMI program has had a significant positive impact on Darulmuhmin School. First, this program helps improve students’ English skills. With an interactive and fun approach, students become more enthusiastic in learning a foreign language. Second, this program also provides an opportunity for local teachers to learn new teaching methods that they can apply in their daily teaching and learning activities. Apart from that, the AMI program also strengthens international relations and cross-cultural understanding between Indonesia and Thailand. Through direct interaction, both students and teachers can recognize and appreciate cultural differences, and build useful collaborative networks in the future.
