From January 2-8, 2024, Visual Communication Design (DKV) students at Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) held a thesis exhibition titled “Art for the Future.” This exhibition showcased students’ creative works, combining fundamental principles of fine arts and design with contemporary approaches, specifically focusing on sustainability issues. This event supports Sustainable Development Goal 12 – “Responsible Consumption and Production,” by emphasizing the importance of more sustainable consumption and production patterns.
The “Art for the Future” exhibition featured various thesis works, including installations, posters, illustrations, and digital media. Each work not only highlighted technical skills but also addressed issues of sustainable consumption and production. Students explored how design can be used to raise awareness about the importance of responsible consumption and sustainable resource management.
The exhibition also provided a platform for students to showcase their talents and creativity to the public while raising awareness about the importance of responsible consumption and production. The audience was invited to see how design can contribute to sustainability, both through information visualization and innovation in materials and techniques.
Overall, “Art for the Future” affirmed Universitas Negeri Malang’s commitment to quality education that is also environmentally responsible. This activity supports the goal by providing a learning environment that encourages students to create while considering the social and environmental impact of their works. Through this exhibition, students and audiences were reminded of the importance of sustainable consumption and production in creating a better and greener future.
