On June 16, 2024, Universitas Negeri Malang held a special farewell event to commemorate students from Jilin International Studies University who were returning to their home countries. One of the event’s highlights was a gamelan performance skillfully and passionately presented by the JISU students.
Gamelan, a distinctive Javanese traditional musical instrument, filled the university’s Main Hall space with mesmerizing harmonies. Jilin International Studies University students enthusiastically played the gamelan instruments, presenting traditional Javanese songs they learned at Universitas Negeri Malang. Each gamelan sound gave a distinctive and mesmerizing feel, creating an atmosphere full of warmth and togetherness.
This event was a musical performance and a means for Jilin International Studies University students to express their gratitude and appreciation to their university and friends in Indonesia. Through the beautiful gamelan music, they immortalized their memories of studying in Malang, describing the emotional and academic journey they have been on.
The gamelan performance was also a critical moment of cultural exchange between Indonesia and China, strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between nations in higher education. The audience from both universities enjoyed Indonesian traditional music’s beauty and felt the cultural exchange’s warmth on stage.
As part of this farewell event, the gamelan performance created a memorable moment for everyone. It was a heartfelt farewell and a celebration of the cross-country friendships forged amidst the educational process and international student life at Universitas Negeri Malang.
