The Implementation of Digital Poster in Understanding English Song for Students of SMA Negeri 1 Tumpang Based on Sustainable Development Goals

The  activity  carried  out  by  participants  of  the Teaching Assistant at SMA Negeri 1

Tumpang is to provide and apply technology-based digital posters to understand English songs. This activity makes students try new things in learning English in fun ways, so they are more motivated by using this new learning system. It was carried out by Muhammad Daffa Aydzulhajj P, Salsabila Firda Hudaya, and Sarah Filia Ramadhani as the English teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Tumpang. This activity was held from 2nd May 2023 to 22nd May 2023 based on the lesson hours for English subjects that week in seven classes, which are XI IPA 1, XI IPA 2, XI IPA 3, XI IPA 4, XI IPA 5, XI IPS 3, and LM’s class of XI IPS 2.

The activity of implementing digital posters is divided into four stages. The first stage is observing the example of digital signs on the internet or from the teacher. The second stage asks the students to make a group of 4-5 people and then determine the material, design, and information needed in the digital poster. The third stage is presenting the digital sign.

Framework in front of the class so the teacher and other students can give feedback to that group. The last stage is presenting the final results of group work and evaluating the final results of digital posters. This activity relates to the sustainable development goals in terms of education and innovation because the implementation of digital signs in learning English songs requires students not only to be able to understand the material but also to memorize the materials well. Furthermore, using digital posters to understand English songs can train the students to think critically in selecting the materials and engage their creativity in designing the digital posters by creating their designs. This implementation can reach sustainable development goals: good quality education and innovative education. In addition, the division of group work from 4-5 students with similar gender percentages makes this activity an opportunity for gender equality, especially in the education sector.

The first stage in that picture shows students finding examples of digital posters to stimulate their understanding of digital posters. In this activity, the teachers also give the example of a digital poster that the teachers have made. Then, the teachers allow them to ask anything related to students’ curiosity about what they observe.

The second stage asks the students to make a group of 4 to 5 students with the percentage of men and women balanced to ensure gender equality. At this stage, the group brainstorms to make them know what they will design later.

The third stage is an activity to provide opportunities for students to present the initial progress or the framework of the digital posters in front of the class. Then, the other groups give feedback to that group to get good final results. The collaboration between these groups raises good competition and quality education.

The last activity requires students to present their final results in front of the class, and the other groups, and the teachers give them feedback again. This activity can train the students to be brave and confident in front of the public, and they can improve their speaking skills. This can be crucial for students to equip their careers in the future.
