Green and Clean Program: Building Awareness of the School Environment

SDN Madyopuro 6 conducted a Green and Clean activity, an initiative program proposed by the Kampus Mengajar team to maintain the cleanliness of the school environment.

This activity involved the entire school community, including teachers, students, and the KM team. The program was implemented on Friday, March 17, 2023, with a cleaning agenda before the arrival of the Ramadan month. This activity aimed to clean the school environment and raise students’ awareness of the importance of a clean and comfortable school environment. This program also helps students to improve their cooperation with their classmates.

In this activity, students are invited to clean the school environment actively. All students are divided into groups based on their classes to clean specific areas. For example, classes 1 and 2 clean the library to the back of their classroom, the 3rd-grade students tend the toilet area, and the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade clean the front and back of their class. During the cleaning process, students learn outside the classroom about their learning environment, which is their school. Through this activity, students also learn about their environmental responsibility and the importance of a clean school area to support effective learning. Based on what they can learn through this activity, this program contributes to the goal of SDG 4: Quality Education. Additionally, the Green and Clean activity contributes to SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation because while cleaning the school, students also learn about the importance of maintaining clean water.

Through this program, students can learn about the importance of collaboration and cooperation in maintaining the school environment. In this activity, students work with their classmates and teachers to clean the designated areas, such as the front of the classroom, as shown in Figure 1. They work in teams to ensure a thorough cleaning of the school environment. The teachers also help them and give the students an excellent example to keep their school clean.
