On August 14, 2024, Kolej Komuniti Selayang, Selangor, Malaysia, hosted a cooking training titled “Indonesian Street Food Goes Global.” This event was aimed at Indonesian students studying in Malaysia, with the aim of introducing and preserving Indonesian cuisine. Led by renowned chef Yon Ade, this training invited participants to get to know various types of iconic street food, such as bakso, martabak, and nasi goreng. Yon Ade explained the importance of authentic taste and cooking techniques, as well as attractive presentation methods.
Participants are given the opportunity to be directly involved in the cooking process. With enthusiasm, they learn from selecting ingredients, processing, to serving. This interactive classroom atmosphere creates opportunities for students to collaborate and share culinary experiences. This training not only teaches cooking skills, but also strengthens the sense of togetherness among students. They support each other and share tips, creating a fun and friendly learning atmosphere.
Through this activity, Yon Ade hopes that students can bring home new knowledge that can be applied at home, while promoting Indonesian street food to the community around them. This activity also aims to raise awareness of Indonesia’s culinary richness on the international stage. With the success of this event, it is hoped that more students will be interested in exploring and preserving Nusantara cuisine, making it part of their identity abroad. This training is a positive step in introducing and celebrating Indonesian street food on the global stage.
