On 16 August 2024, Yon Ade Lose Hermanto, S.Sn, M.Sn, shared his in-depth insights into the unique architectural designs of two iconic sites in Malaysia, namely the Putra Jaya Mosque and Batu Caves. In his presentation delivered in Selangor and Putra Jaya, Hermanto revealed the secrets behind the architectural designs of these two places that combine various cultural and aesthetic elements.
Putra Jaya Mosque, located in the administrative center of Malaysia, is a prominent example of architectural design that combines Middle Eastern elements with local Malaysian touches. Yon Ade Lose Hermanto, S.Sn, M.Sn, said that one of the secrets of the mosque’s design lies in its ability to combine the majestic Middle Eastern architectural style with distinctive local artistic details.
The large dome that dominates the building adopts a traditional Middle Eastern design, while the carvings and ornaments that adorn the mosque reflect traditional Malaysian techniques and motifs. This combination not only provides a stunning visual display but also creates a space that serves as a symbol of cultural unity and harmony.
On the other hand, Batu Caves, a cave complex known as a sacred Hindu site, displays a blend of classical Hindu art and contemporary elements. Hermanto said that the architectural design of the temples in Batu Caves is the result of the integration of Hindu tradition and modern innovation. The statues and ornaments in Batu Caves show how elements of Hindu art have been adapted to create an experience that is relevant to the modern era.
The festivals and celebrations held at Batu Caves also reflect how local Malaysian culture interacts with Hindu traditions, adding to the richness and diversity of the cultural experiences offered by the complex. Hermanto stressed that this synergy is key to understanding the uniqueness of Batu Caves architecture.
Yon Ade Lose Hermanto’s presentation provided a deep understanding of the unique architectural designs of the Putra Jaya Mosque and Batu Caves. Through the integration of different cultural elements, these two sites not only offer visual beauty but also reflect a rich process of acculturation. The secret behind their architectural designs lies in their ability to unite various traditions and innovations, creating a work that represents a deep cultural harmony.
