SDG 10

On September 3, 2024, Universitas Negeri Malang hosted the Lokovasia 2024 event, an international forum that brings together mentors from the music field. Held in Building D14, AVA room. Lokovasia 2024 was attended by several students, one of whom was a visual communication design student. The main theme of Lokovasia 2024 aims to ensure equal opportunities for everyone regardless of their social, economic, or geographical background. One of the main discussions was how technology can be a powerful tool in reducing inequality. With increased access to technology, people in remote and disadvantaged areas can gain equal opportunities in education and employment, which directly helps narrow the gap.

Mentors present provided real-world examples of how the use of technology can empower disadvantaged groups. For example, internet-based education programs designed for children in remote areas, or technology initiatives that help farmers in developing countries improve their yields. In this context, technology is seen as a critical tool for accelerating progress towards global equality.

In addition to technology, another aspect highlighted in Lokovasia 2024 is the importance of vocational education and training for the younger generation. Inequality occurs not only in economic access, but also in education. Mentors provide insight into the importance of technical and soft skills in facing the challenges of an increasingly dynamic world of work.

Several mentors in attendance emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, educational institutions, and the private sector in creating more inclusive opportunities. They shared their experiences in developing internship programs, scholarships, and courses designed to empower young people from all walks of life.

By hosting this international event, Universitas Negeri Malang shows that higher education has a moral responsibility to create wider and equal access for everyone, both domestically and internationally. Through collaboration with world mentors, the university strives to continue to contribute to reducing inequality.

The Lokovasia 2024 event closed with a Q&A session and panel discussion, where participants could ask the mentors directly about the various challenges faced in efforts to reduce inequality. The mentors provided diverse perspectives and practical solutions that can be implemented by individuals, organizations, and governments.

Lokovasia 2024 is an important momentum in building global awareness about the importance of collaboration to overcome inequality. With the end of this event, great hope arises that the initiatives discussed will continue and have a real impact in achieving sustainable development goals.
