The Chinatown Festival is an annual celebration of color and culture. It features a variety of exciting activities, including Chinese speech and singing competitions, which are a significant attraction for visitors. The Chinatown Festival was held at Ma Chung University in Malang from July 26 to 28, 2024.
The Chinatown Festival is a colorful and cultural annual celebration held in the heart of the city’s Chinatown district. The event features a variety of exciting activities, including Chinese speech and singing competitions, which are a significant draw for visitors. Participants from all walks of life competed with gusto, showcasing their Chinese language skills and impressive artistic talents. In addition, the festival also features traditional culinary exhibitions, cultural art performances, and a bazaar selling various Chinese products. The Chinatown Festival is an entertainment event that strengthens community ties and preserves Chinese cultural heritage in Indonesia.
Speech Contest
The speech competition at this year’s Chinatown Festival attracted many participants from all walks of life. The participants competed to deliver speeches in Mandarin with passion and creativity. Each speech not only displayed Chinese language skills but also illustrated a deep understanding of Chinese cultural values. In this competition, students have the opportunity to take part in a speech competition held by Ma Chung University. Malang State University students also do not miss this opportunity.
In participating in this competition the State University of Malang allowed several students to participate in the speech competition. The students who participated in the competition were Shelomita Rizka Arta, Yennita Oktavia, and Siti Ulin Nuha. On this occasion, a student named Yennita Oktavia won 2nd place in a speech competition.
Singing Contest
The singing competition at the Chinatown Festival is one of the most anticipated events, showcasing a wide range of talent from all ages eager to showcase their vocal skills in Mandarin. This event is an entertainment event and a means of cultural preservation through traditional and modern Chinese music and songs. Through this competition, the younger generation will get to know and love Chinese culture and provide a platform for talented singers to perform in front of the public and inspire the audience. This festival symbolizes diversity and togetherness, strengthens relationships within the community, and promotes Chinese art and culture to the broader community.
In participating in this competition, the State University of Malang was represented by a student, Shafira Angel Hadi Wiyono. In this singing competition, Shafira Angel got the 3rd place position which performed the song 大鱼 [Dàyú].
Hope for The Future
The future expectation for the speech and singing competitions in the Chinatown Festival is to continue to increase participation and enthusiasm from various circles of society, especially the younger generation. With more and more participants, this competition can be a forum for them to deepen their Chinese language skills and hone their public speaking skills. In addition, this event is also expected to strengthen relationships between communities and promote Chinese culture to the broader community so that the Chinatown Festival can become an annual event that is increasingly anticipated and has a broader positive impact.
