On January 5, 2024, Visual Communication Design (DKV) students at Universitas Negeri Malang held an exhibition titled “Inti Nirmana.” This exhibition showcased the creative works of students who combined the basic principles of fine arts and design with a contemporary approach. “Nirmana,” which means ‘forming’ or ‘creating’ in Sanskrit, served as the central theme encouraging exploration of aesthetics and composition in various forms of visual art. This activity also supports Sustainable Development Goal 12 – “Responsible Consumption and Production.”
The “Inti Nirmana” exhibition featured various works, including installations, posters, illustrations, and digital media. Each piece not only highlighted technical skills but also raised issues of sustainable consumption and production. Students explored how design can be used to increase awareness about the importance of responsible consumption and sustainable resource management.
In this context, education through art and design becomes an effective tool for conveying messages about sustainability. Students are encouraged to think critically about how products and services can be designed with consideration for environmental and social impacts. Through their works, students promote the use of eco-friendly materials, waste reduction, and ethical production practices.
This exhibition also serves as a platform for students to showcase their talents and creativity to the public while raising awareness about the importance of responsible consumption and production. The audience is invited to see how design can contribute to sustainability, both through information visualization and innovation in materials and techniques.
Overall, “Inti Nirmana” affirms Universitas Negeri Malang’s commitment to quality education that is also environmentally responsible. This activity supports the goal by providing a learning environment that encourages students to create while considering the social and environmental impacts of their works. Through this exhibition, both students and the audience are reminded of the importance of sustainable consumption and production in creating a better and greener future.
