On April 27, the English Department Student Association organized “Watch A Movie and Speak Up” at the GKB A20 mini theater, State University of Malang. The event involved the active participation of students, staff, and lecturers as participants. The event began with the screening of a movie carefully selected for its educational content and relevance to current and pressing global issues. This was followed by a speaker-led discussion session, where participants were invited to speak up, express their views, and ask questions about the themes raised in the movie.

The discussions aimed to enhance understanding of peace, justice, and strong institutions and broaden participants’ horizons regarding the complexity of current global challenges. According to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 principles, this activity supports efforts to promote peace, justice, and effective institutions and encourages active participation in creating sustainable solutions for the global community. Thus, the English Department Student Association hopes this activity will enrich participants’ knowledge and actively motivate them to advance human values and justice in their communities.

The English Department Student Association organized “Watch A Movie and Speak Up” to create an interactive and motivating learning experience. The event invited participants from all walks of life to watch movies specially selected for their educational content and relevance to global and social issues. After the movie screening, a discussion session was held where participants could talk, share their views, and ask questions about the themes raised in the movie. The main objective of this activity was to increase participants’ awareness of the importance of peace, justice, and strong institutions in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16. Through in-depth and open discussions, this activity aimed to strengthen critical thinking skills, communication skills, and active participation in constructive dialog. In addition, the discussions also encourage participants to understand the complexity of global issues, appreciate the importance of fair and inclusive institutions, and promote the values of peace and justice in everyday life. Thus, this activity broadens the participants’ horizons and prepares them to become agents of change who can contribute to developing a more peaceful and just society.
