The Faculty of Letters (FS) at Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) has expanded its international networks through strategic collaborations with renowned universities worldwide. This initiative aligns with UM’s ambition to enhance its global standing and academic excellence. 

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, a significant milestone was achieved when the leadership of the FS convened with a delegation from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This meeting underscored the commitment of both institutions to foster academic cooperation and cultural exchange, thereby enriching the educational experiences of their students and faculty.

The Strategic Meeting

The delegation from UKM comprised eight distinguished representatives, who Dr. Moch warmly received. Syahri, M.Si, the Dean of the Faculty of Letters at UM, along with other vital members of the faculty’s leadership. During this strategic meeting, both parties discussed potential areas of collaboration, including joint research projects, faculty and student exchange programs, and the development of collaborative academic courses.

Dr. Syahri expressed his optimism about the partnership: “This collaboration is a significant step towards strengthening UM’s position as a leading institution. By working together, we can achieve greater academic excellence and global recognition.” He further highlighted that UM currently holds the top position at the national level according to the Scimago Institutions Rankings (SIR) 2024, a testament to the university’s commitment to quality education and research.

Aiming for Global Excellence

The Faculty of Letters at UM has a rich history of academic achievements and is dedicated to fostering an environment that encourages innovation and scholarly pursuits. The collaboration with UKM is a valuable opportunity to share knowledge, resources, and expertise, which will benefit both institutions. It also reflects UM’s broader strategy to build a robust international presence and to provide its students with a global perspective.

The strategic partnership with UKM is expected to pave the way for various collaborative initiatives. These may include co-authored research publications, international conferences, and workshops that bring together scholars from both universities to address contemporary issues in literature, linguistics, and cultural studies.

The successful meeting with UKM is part of a series of efforts by the Faculty of Letters at UM to build a comprehensive network of international collaborations.
