The Community Service Division, or Bagian Pengabdian Masyarakat, is crucial in bridging the gap between academia and society. It aims to instill a sense of social responsibility and community awareness among students. By participating in various community outreach programs, students can apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings, thus enriching their educational experience and contributing positively to society.

The Community Service Division has outlined several key objectives and planned activities for the upcoming academic year:

1. Educational Outreach Programs: Collaborating with local schools to provide supplementary education and cultural awareness workshops, emphasizing the importance of literature and language in daily life.
2. Cultural Preservation Projects: Engaging with communities to document and preserve local traditions, folklore, and languages, thus promoting cultural heritage and identity.
3. Environmental Initiatives: Organizing clean-up drives, tree-planting activities, and awareness campaigns to promote environmental sustainability and responsibility among students and community members.
4. Health and Wellness Campaigns: Partnering with healthcare professionals to conduct health screenings, wellness workshops, and mental health awareness programs.
5. Social Welfare Programs: Assisting underprivileged groups through food drives, clothing donations, and skills training workshops to improve their quality of life and self-sufficiency.

Significance of Community Service in Higher Education

Including community service as one of the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi underscores its significance in higher education. It emphasizes the role of universities not only as centers of learning but also as catalysts for social change. By participating in community service, students develop a deeper understanding of societal issues and learn to apply their academic knowledge to benefit others.

Moreover, community service activities enhance students’ personal and professional growth. They build essential leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. These experiences prepare students to be more compassionate, informed, and responsible citizens.

The appointment of the new members to the Community Service Division of the HMD Sastra Indonesia marks a significant step towards strengthening the connection between the Indonesian Literature Department and the community.
