On May 25, 2024, 19 students from the Faculty of Letters and five from the Faculty of Education Sciences at the Universitas Negeri Malang set off on a remarkable journey to Thailand. Their mission? To participate in a Cultural Studies Workshop hosted by Yala Rajabhat University and engage in International Teaching Assistance across several schools in Krabi, Thailand.
The departure of these 24 students was marked with a ceremonious farewell led by the Dean of the Faculty of Letters, Dr. Moch. Syahri, M.Si, accompanied by Vice Deans and Department Heads in the AVA Hall of the Faculty of Letters on May 23, 2024. In his address, Dr. Syahri emphasized the importance of this international experience, urging the students to broaden their horizons and dissolve the boundaries of nations, thus fostering a global perspective.
The journey to Thailand signifies more than just a trip abroad; it represents an opportunity for cultural exchange, personal growth, and academic enrichment. Through the Cultural Studies Workshop, students will delve into the intricacies of Thai culture, history, and society, gaining valuable insights that transcend textbooks and classrooms. Interacting with students and educators from Yala Rajabhat University will provide a platform for dialogue, mutual learning, and lasting connections.
Additionally, the International Teaching Assistance program in Krabi offers a hands-on opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world educational settings. Collaborating with local teachers, they will assist in classroom activities, language instruction, and cultural exchange initiatives. This immersive experience enhances their teaching competencies and fosters cross-cultural understanding and empathy.
As ambassadors of the Universitas Negeri Malang, these students carry the responsibility of representing their institution and country with grace and respect. They embody the spirit of global citizenship, embracing diversity and the shared humanity that transcends borders. Their participation in the AMI Thailand program enriches their academic journey and contributes to the broader goal of fostering international cooperation and understanding.
Upon their return, these students are expected to bring back not only cherished memories but also a newfound appreciation for diversity, a deeper understanding of global issues, and a renewed commitment to making a positive impact in their communities and beyond. The Universitas Negeri Malang applauds their courage, curiosity, and dedication to embracing the world as their classroom.
