Collaboration between lecturers and students at Pesta Rakyat Malang State University

he Department of Indonesian Language (DBI) of the State University of Malang was considered successful when organizing Pesta Rakyat commemorating Language Month. Pesta Rakyat is one of the events organized by HMD Sastra Indonesia and is the first event held by the Department of Indonesian Language on Saturday (29/10/2022).

This drama performance carries the theme “Asmara Amba Bisma.” The music is inspired by the Mahabharata puppet story, which then takes part in the romance between Maha Bisma and Dewi Amba. Uniquely, this drama performance results from collaboration between lecturers and students. The event began with the performance of Gita Lenggang Tari, followed by remarks by the chief executive, Nawwaf Faruq, and ended with comments from the chairman of the Department of Indonesian Language, Dr. Roekhan, M.Pd. There was also a maca geguritan performance from the FLBS (Language and Literature Literacy Festival) competition winners.

The Pesta Rakyat, held at the Sasana Budaya Building of the State University of Malang with a capacity of 500 people, was successfully carried out with great fanfare. The reason is that the audience’s euphoria exceeds the capability and capacity estimated by the committee. The audience for the Mahabharata story reached 700 people, ranging from students, alums, and the general public. 

Apart from being a forum for students to channel their interests and talents. The People’s Party of drama performances held by the Indonesian Language Department is a form of promotion of the drama laboratory of the Faculty of Letters, the State University of Malang, so that it will hold even better drama performances in the future.
