On October 12, 2024, State University of Malang (UM) successfully held the 2024 Language and Literature Literacy Festival, which was attended by high school / vocational / MA students throughout Java. This event aims to increase interest and love for language and literature among the younger generation, as well as provide a platform for them to express creativity and talent in various art forms.

The festival consisted of four competitions, namely poetry creation, geguritan reading, nembang macapat, and short story writing. Each branch of the competition attracted enthusiastic participants, demonstrating a wide range of creativity and skills in language and literature. The poetry competition, for example, became a platform for students to express their feelings and thoughts through beautiful and meaningful words. Meanwhile, reading geguritan and nembang macapat highlighted the richness of oral traditions that are still relevant in the midst of the times.

In his speech, the event committee emphasized the importance of literacy as the foundation of quality education. The festival not only provided a space for students to compete, but also encouraged them to learn to appreciate and preserve cultural heritage. By improving literacy skills, it is hoped that the younger generation can be better prepared to face future challenges and contribute positively to society.

This activity also involves judges who are experienced in the field of literature, thus providing an objective and constructive assessment of the participants’ works. The 2024 Language and Literature Literacy Festival is expected to be the first step for students to explore the world of literature more deeply and play an active role in building a rich literacy culture in Indonesia.
