On October 3, 2024, State University of Malang (UM) held a National Seminar on Language and Literature Month which took place at the Sasana Budaya building. This event is an important momentum in order to strengthen understanding and love for language and literature among the younger generation. This seminar carries the theme “Reactualization of Language and Literature to Face the Crisis of Repositioning Literature as a Container for the Contribution of the Young Generation,” which is very relevant to the challenges facing the world of literature today.

Dr. Ida Nurul Chasanah, S.S., M. Hum, a lecturer at Universitas Airlangga, was invited as the main speaker. In her presentation, Dr. Ida emphasized the important role of language and literature in shaping the character and critical thinking of the younger generation. She explained that the reactualization of language and literature is not only about preserving cultural heritage, but also a means to channel the aspirations and creativity of the younger generation in the context of a changing society.

As moderator, Dr. Karkono, S.S., M. Hum, a lecturer at the State University of Malang, guided the discussion carefully and interactively. He encouraged seminar participants to actively ask questions and share views on how language and literature can be adapted to answer the challenges of the times. The discussion provided space for participants to explore new ideas and develop critical thinking about the role of language and literature in everyday life.

The seminar also underlined the importance of collaboration between academics, writers and the wider community in creating a conducive literacy ecosystem. By promoting innovation in the teaching of language and literature, it is hoped that the younger generation can more easily access quality education, so that they can contribute positively to society.

The active participation of students and literary activists from various backgrounds added to the vibrancy of this event. Thus, this seminar is not only a place to exchange knowledge, but also a real step in awakening the spirit of work among the younger generation. Hopefully, this seminar can inspire many parties to continue to love and develop language and literature as a tool to convey ideas and positive values in everyday life.
