Another proud achievement was made by Malang State University (UM) students. Ade Kurniawan, a student of the Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program, won first place in the poetry creation competition at the Besurek Literature Festival organized by Bengkulu University.
This competition was attended by participants from various universities in Indonesia, making it one of the prestigious literary competitions in the country. Ade Kurniawan’s work managed to amaze the jury with the strength of the imagery, the uniqueness of the language style, and the depth of the message conveyed.
In his work, Ade raised the theme of locality and cultural traditions, especially those related to Bengkulu’s besurek motif. He managed to combine traditional elements with a modern perspective, creating a poem that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also relevant to the issue of cultural preservation.
“I dedicate this poem to appreciate the richness of Indonesian culture, especially the besurek tradition which is an icon of Bengkulu,” said Ade when interviewed after the announcement of the winner.
This achievement received great appreciation from the State University of Malang. Ade’s supervisor expressed his pride in this achievement. “This victory shows that our students are able to compete nationally, as well as showing how literature can be a means of celebrating the richness of Indonesian culture,” he said.
The Besurek Literature Festival is an annual event that aims to promote literature, local culture, and creative arts among the younger generation. With this victory, Ade Kurniawan is expected to continue to inspire other students to work and excel in the field of literature.
