Universitas Negeri Malang Debate Competition (UMDC) is a debate competition held by the English Department Student Association of Universitas Negeri Malang on November 10. This activity aims to hone critical thinking skills, public speaking skills, and develop students’ argumentation skills in English. With the theme “Bridging Inequality Through Dialogue: A Path to Inclusive Development”, UMDC encourages participants to explore issues of inequality that exist in various sectors, and find solutions that can reduce social and economic disparities in society.

The competition is in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 10, Reduced Inequality, which focuses on reducing inequality both within countries and between countries. UMDC aims to raise student awareness on the importance of social inclusion, economic justice, and empowerment of marginalized communities. It also invites students to think critically about ways in which they can create a more just and equal society.

Through debates that emphasize constructive dialogue, UMDC not only broadens participants’ horizons on issues of inequality, but also teaches them the importance of collaboration between individuals and groups to create positive change. This activity is expected to create a younger generation that is more sensitive to social issues and ready to work to reduce inequality and create more inclusive development.
