The 2024 Indonesian Traditional Music Conservation and Innovation Workshop (Lokovasia), organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) together with the Musike SJ Foundation, aims to strengthen the preservation of Indonesian traditional music through an innovative approach that is in line with the principles of sustainability. This activity involves various participants from all over Indonesia, including from East Java, West Java, Central Java, East Nusa Tenggara, and Bali.
This year’s Lokovasia carries the theme “Clean and Affordable Energy”, which symbolically reflects the importance of preserving culture while supporting the use of renewable energy and protecting the environment. Students of the Visual Communication Design Study Program, State University of Malang are encouraged to participate in and appreciate Lokovasia 2024, not only as a means to increase insight into the field of traditional music, but also to support and enliven events that are important for cultural preservation.
The participants’ performances were carried out both indoors and outdoors, with the main location at the Veteran Street Gate, State University of Malang. Through this participation, students are expected to better appreciate the richness of Indonesian traditional music and understand the role of culture in the context of environmental sustainability. The 2024 Indonesian Traditional Music Conservation and Innovation Workshop (Lokovasia) is also a forum for participants to share knowledge and innovation in maintaining the archipelago’s musical traditions.
