Indonesian was designated as the National Language on October 28, 1928 and confirmed as the State Language through the 1945 Constitution Chapter XV Article 36, on August 18, 1945. Over time, the existence of Indonesian in the millennial generation has attracted many opinions and opinions. problem. The problem arises because in this digitalization era, the social reach of each individual is getting wider. Millennials in communicating experience language contamination or mixing of other languages. Seeing the current problems, HMJ Sastra Indonesia held a webinar program with the main target being students throughout Indonesia. This webinar has the theme “The Existence of the Use of Indonesian in the Millennial Generation”. The purpose of this webinar is to raise the spirit of learning to speak Indonesian properly and correctly, and later it is hoped that it will be able to contribute to the country through an inspiring work. This 2021 Indonesian Language Existence Webinar was held on Saturday, March 27, 2021, through the Zoom Meeting platform.

The enthusiasm of the participants could be seen from the number of participants who attended the virtual face-to-face meeting, which was attended by 150 students from all over Indonesia, and was opened by the MC at 08.30. The first activity was remarks, the first remark was delivered by the Deputy Dean III of the Faculty of Letters, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hanafi, S.Ag., M.Fil.I, the second speech was delivered by the Trustees of the Indonesian Literature HMJ, Dewi Ariyani, S.S., S.Pd., M.Pd, the next speech was delivered by the Chairperson of the 2021 Indonesian Literature HMJ, and the Chairperson Webinars. The main event of this webinar was delivered by two great speakers, the first speaker was a lecturer at Indonesian Literature, State University of Malang, namely Mrs. Novi Eka Susilowati, S.Pd., M.Pd. While the second speaker is a Wikipedian who loves Indonesian, namely Mr. Ivan Lanin, S.T., M.T.I. The first material, Mrs. Novi Eka thoroughly discussed communication on social media. In the second material, Mr. Ivan Lanin wants to open up the horizon of language in the future. Several participants said they were very enthusiastic about participating in this webinar. The explanations of the two materials were able to make their minds open and continue to strive to apply good and correct Indonesian in their daily lives.

Mrs. Novi Eka Susilowati, S.Pd., M.Pd explained material about the results of previous research on communication in social media. The results of the study showed that social media audiences would argue with each other if they do not have a “strong bond”. Political polarization and one’s ideology affected the use of language in commenting on social media.

In the second material, Mr. Ivan Lanin, S.T., M.T.I. described 10 skills (skills) that needed in the future according to a study by the World Economic Forum. The ten skills are (1) analytical thinking and innovation, (2) active learning and learning strategies, (3) complex problem-solving, (4) critical thinking and analysis, (5) creativity, originality and initiative, (6) leadership and social influence, (7) technology use, monitoring and control, (8) technology design and programming, (9) resilience, stress tolerance and flexibility, and (10), reasoning, problem-solving and ideation. This webinar event was expected to be able to awaken the millennial generation how important it is to learn, protect, and love more in Indonesian.
