On September 3, 2024, Universitas Negeri Malang hosted the Lokovasia 2024 event at Building D14, AVA room. This event carries a theme that is more than just a cultural competition. Lokovasia 2024 creates a movement that unites innovation, technology, and local culture of Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Through cross-sector collaboration, this event encourages cultural preservation with an innovative modern approach.

Lokovasia 2024 features various cultural competitions, but the core of the event is combining cultural heritage with increasingly advanced technological developments. The main focus is on how traditional culture can be maintained and developed through modern technological innovation and infrastructure. Participants and spectators are invited to see that technology not only accelerates modernization, but also plays an important role in preserving the cultural wealth of a nation.

One of the most interesting parts of the event is the virtual exhibition that allows participants to see and experience traditional culture in digital form. Several innovations such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are used to present traditional art performances, historical architecture, and local artworks in a more interactive and accessible form for the younger generation. With this technology, geographical boundaries are no longer relevant, and local culture can be introduced globally.

In a panel discussion held during Lokovasia 2024, several local innovators and tech industry players discussed the importance of investing in infrastructure that supports cultural preservation. They emphasized that cultural preservation is not only about preserving old traditions, but also ensuring that the culture can survive and thrive in the modern era. Technologies such as digital platforms for cultural archives, interactive applications about folklore, and the application of 3D technology to preserve historical artifacts are real solutions offered.

One of the projects showcased is a digital platform that collects folktales from across Indonesia, and reintroduces them through digital media. This allows wider access for younger generations who may be more familiar with technology, while preserving intangible heritage that is increasingly threatened with extinction.

In addition to technology, Lokovasia 2024 also highlights the role of the creative industry in preserving culture. The creative industry, which includes arts, crafts, music, and design, has great potential to promote local culture while creating jobs and boosting economic growth. The event invites various local artists and creative industry players to showcase products inspired by traditional culture but adapted to the needs of the modern market.

The discussion in Lokovasia also discussed how the government and private sector can collaborate to build infrastructure that supports the growth of culture-based creative industries. This includes the development of art centers, digital museums, and virtual galleries that can be accessed by people around the world. With supporting infrastructure, local culture can not only survive but also become a source of inspiration for creative innovation in the future.

As the host, Universitas Negeri Malang plays an important role in connecting technological innovation with cultural preservation. In his speech, the Rector of Universitas Negeri Malang said that universities must become centers of innovation that not only encourage technological progress, but also promote cultural preservation. Through Lokovasia 2024, Universitas Negeri Malang seeks to integrate local culture in technology and innovation education, so that students can appreciate and preserve their culture through modern means.

Technology, art, and culture-based study programs at Universitas Negeri Malang are also increasingly directed with a focus on developing environmentally friendly and sustainable technology-based creative industries. Through collaboration with various parties, the university continues to innovate to develop infrastructure that supports the integration of culture and technology.

Lokovasia 2024 is not just a competition event, but also a movement for a sustainable cultural future. By combining tradition and innovation, this event creates a space for cross-generational and cross-disciplinary dialogue, aiming to ensure that local culture can continue to thrive and be recognized on the global stage. Lokovasia 2024 paves the way for the development of infrastructure and creative industries that support cultural preservation, while leveraging technology to expand impact and access. This event is expected to be the first step towards further integration between technology, creative industries, and cultural preservation, creating opportunities that are not only economically beneficial but also strengthen the nation’s cultural identity amidst the flow of globalization.
