SDG 5

The purpose of this activity is to introduce dance to new students while fostering a deeper understanding of gender equality. As part of the Student Level program of the Department of Art and Design, State University of Malang, held at Precet Forest Park from September 14 to 15, 2024, new students from the Dance and Music Education study program attended a special session focused on dance education.

The session aimed to highlight the role of dance as a powerful medium to express and challenge traditional gender roles, promote inclusion, and encourage equal opportunities for all, regardless of gender. The dance workshop provided a platform for students to explore various dance styles and movements, demonstrating how both men and women can contribute equally to this art form. By breaking down gender stereotypes in dance, the session emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive environment where everyone is free to express their artistic talents without limitations.

The workshop also encouraged discussion on how dance can be used as a tool to advocate for gender equality and empower individuals in their communities. The initiative aims to inspire students to incorporate gender equality into their creative practice and to challenge societal norms through their art. It reinforces the department’s commitment to integrating gender equality into its curriculum, encouraging students to become advocates for gender equality both in the arts and in wider society.
