The International Conference on Arts, Design, Education, and Cultural Studies (ICADECS) 2024, hosted by Universitas Negeri Malang, will highlight how arts and design can address critical global issues, including food security. One of the event’s key speakers, Ari Dharminalan Rudenko, Ph.D. (Cand), will focus on the potential of creative education to contribute to SDG 2: Zero Hunger.
In his presentation, Rudenko will discuss how artistic and design practices can be used to raise awareness about hunger and food waste while also encouraging sustainable agricultural practices. He will explore how creative campaigns, such as visual arts projects and community-driven design initiatives, have educated the public on food sustainability and distribution inequalities.
Rudenko will present case studies where arts and design have been applied to innovative food solutions, from sustainable urban gardens to educational programs on reducing food waste. These initiatives have empowered communities to take local action, producing their own food and promoting fair access to resources.
Rudenko’s talk will also emphasize the role of arts education in inspiring young people to engage with issues of food security. By incorporating creative approaches into the curriculum, educators can foster a sense of responsibility and innovation in addressing global hunger challenges.
Aligned with the ICADECS 2024 theme, “Reimagining Education through Arts and Design for Sustainable Futures,” this session will showcase how creative education can contribute to SDG 2. Participants will engage in workshops, discussions, and exhibitions that explore how arts and design can help create a world where hunger is eliminated, and food is accessible to all.
