The International Conference on Arts, Design, Education, and Cultural Studies (ICADECS) 2024, hosted by Universitas Negeri Malang, will bring together experts to explore how arts and design can contribute to global challenges. One of the featured speakers, Ari Dharminalan Rudenko, Ph.D. (Cand), will focus on the intersection of creative education and access to clean water, aligning with SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.

In his presentation, Rudenko will discuss how creative thinking can raise awareness and inspire action regarding water conservation and sanitation issues. He will present examples of how design thinking and art have been used to develop innovative solutions to water scarcity, from designing water-efficient systems to creating public awareness campaigns about water usage. Rudenko believes that art and design can make complex environmental issues more accessible and relatable to the public.

By integrating arts into education, Rudenko argues that students can learn about the importance of water conservation in an engaging and impactful way. He will showcase projects where artistic expressions, such as visual arts, installations, and performances, have successfully communicated water issues to local communities, encouraging collective action for water sustainability.

ICADECS 2024’s theme, “Reimagining Education through Arts and Design for Sustainable Futures,” reflects the importance of creative education in tackling global challenges like clean water access. The conference will include discussions, workshops, and exhibitions aimed at demonstrating how the arts can play a key role in advancing SDG 6, equipping future generations with the knowledge and tools to protect one of the world’s most vital resources—clean water.
