The International Conference on Arts, Design, Education, and Cultural Studies (ICADECS) 2024 at Universitas Negeri Malang will focus on the potential of arts and design to contribute to sustainable urban development. Ari Dharminalan Rudenko, Ph.D. (Cand), will deliver a keynote speech highlighting the role of arts and design in advancing SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
In his presentation, Rudenko will explore how creative solutions in design can address challenges in urban areas, such as overcrowding, pollution, and lack of accessible public spaces. He will emphasize the need to integrate art and design into urban planning to create inclusive, livable, and environmentally friendly cities. By fostering collaboration between artists, designers, and urban planners, cities can become spaces that promote cultural identity, community engagement, and sustainability.
Rudenko will present case studies of urban projects that have successfully incorporated artistic interventions to transform neglected spaces into vibrant, sustainable areas. These examples demonstrate how art and design can inspire community-driven initiatives, strengthen social bonds, and enhance the quality of life in cities.
Aligned with the ICADECS 2024 theme, “Reimagining Education through Arts and Design for Sustainable Futures,” Rudenko’s talk will highlight the importance of creative education in equipping future generations with the skills to design more sustainable urban environments. Participants will engage in discussions and workshops to explore how educators, artists, and policymakers can collaborate to create cities that are more inclusive, safe, and sustainable through innovative design and community involvement.
