On the ninth day of the “Holiday Program: Learning World Languages,” held on July 11, 2024, SAC Mandarin organized an event aimed at introducing and developing participants’ skills in the art of Jianzhi, traditional Chinese paper cutting. This activity was designed to enhance participants’ fine motor skills and enrich their understanding of Chinese culture.
The day began with introductions and opening remarks. Participants and SAC Mandarins students introduced themselves during this session, creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The instructor also explained the objectives and schedule for the day’s activities, giving participants a clear idea of what they would be learning and doing.
Following the introductions, the session continued with an interactive presentation on the art of Jianzhi. The instructor explained the history and cultural significance of Jianzhi and demonstrated various basic techniques used in this paper-cutting art. Participants were actively involved, provided with paper and the necessary tools to practice the techniques they had learned. They were taught step-by-step how to create various shapes and patterns, from simple to more complex designs. This hands-on practice session allowed participants to apply their knowledge directly and develop their artistic skills.
After the practice session, the day continued with a documentation and closing session. Participants were asked to showcase their creations, and a documentation session was held to capture the critical moments of the day’s activities. The instructor recognized and thanked the participants for their efforts and creativity. The closing session wrapped up the day’s activities and provided final messages to the participants.
Overall, the ninth day’s activities provided the participants with a deep and enjoyable learning experience. Through the introduction and practice of Jianzhi, participants honed their fine motor skills and creativity and deepened their understanding of Chinese culture.
