Students of the Department of Indonesian Literature, State University of Malang Reveal Local Culture in Journalistic Works at ISoLEC 2024

At the International Seminar on Language, Education, and Culture (ISoLEC) 2024, which was held at the State University of Malang on July 11-12, 2024, students of the UM Indonesian Literature Department played an important role in highlighting local culture through journalistic works. They took the initiative to review local culture in journalistic works that discuss regional issues.
Students of the UM Indonesian Literature Department carry out research that involves in-depth exploration of the lives of local people in Indonesia. They choose topics that cover various aspects of culture, such as traditional traditions, local arts and culture, social challenges, and environmental conservation efforts. Through journalistic work in the form of documentary films, they succeeded in showing aspects that significantly impact the sustainability of local culture and identity.
The ISoLEC 2024 participants warmly welcomed the students’ presence at the event. The audience was impressed by their dedication to researching and presenting evocative stories about local life in Indonesia. The discussions that followed the presentations reflected a keen interest in Indonesia’s cultural diversity and the critical role of media in promoting cross-cultural understanding.
Faculty and fellow students from the UM Indonesian Literature Department fully supported student participation in ISoLEC 2024. This support included intensive mentoring and appreciation for their contribution to raising cultural issues through this seminar.
The involvement of UM Indonesian Literature Department students in ISoLEC 2024 is clear evidence of their commitment to understanding, respecting, and appreciating Indonesia’s local culture through informative and inspiring journalistic work. Through their presentations, they succeeded in conveying a solid narrative about the complexity of local communities’ lives and strengthening global awareness about the importance of preserving and respecting cultural diversity in Indonesia.
