SDG 12

On March 26, 2024, Building C9 of the Faculty of Letters, State University of Malang will be the center of a Foreign Student Exchange activity focusing on sustainable batik making. The event aims to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal – Responsible Consumption and Production, by emphasizing the importance of sustainable production practices in the batik industry.

It emphasized the need to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. In this activity, students from the State University of Malang will share batik knowledge and skills with Chinese students, while introducing responsible production practices. The batik-making process that will be taught involves the use of natural materials, such as natural dyes from plants, as well as techniques that minimize waste.

Chinese students will learn how to draw patterns, dye, and color fabrics with environmentally friendly natural dyes. The use of natural dyes not only reduces the negative impact on the environment, but also produces products that are safe for consumers. In addition, waste reduction in the production process will be taught through recycling techniques and utilization of leftover materials.

This international collaboration provides an opportunity for Chinese students to understand the importance of sustainable production practices in the creative industry. They can bring this knowledge back to their country and apply it in a local context, creating a wider positive impact.

By promoting responsible consumption and production, these activities contribute to global efforts to maintain ecosystem balance and protect natural resources. This Foreign Student Exchange not only teaches technical skills, but also instills awareness of the importance of sustainability in every aspect of life.

Through education and training focused on sustainable practices, the event supports and inspires the younger generation to take an active role in creating a greener and more responsible future.
